Abstract: The chemical composition, phase composition, thermal property, particle size distribution, micromorphology and plasticity of Jiaoyuanwu and Jiubao purple sand syderolite were characterized by XRF, XRD, thermal analyzer, laser particle size analyzer, SEM and plasticity instrument respectively. The results indicate that Jiaoyuanwu purple sand syderolite is mainly composed of hydromica, chlorite and quartz. Jiaoyuanwu purple sand syderolite shows high content of Fe2O3 and TiO2 and large particle size (d50=20.25 μm). And its plasticity index can reach 14.5 cm·kg when the rate of water content is 18%. The mica particles with large size and a small amount of debris can be observed from electron microscope. Jiubao purple sand syderolite is mainly composed of hydromica, calcite and quartz. Jiubao purple sand syderolite shows low content of Fe2O3 and TiO2 and small particle size (d50=4.309 μm). And its plasticity index is 6.7 cm·kg when the rate of water content is 18%.
