Abstract: Famille rose decoration arose with its distinction: its techniques were derived from Kangxi wucai and cloisonné, and its decorative patterns and styles bore the characteristics of court flower-and-bird paintings in Kangxi, Yongzheng and Qianlong periods of the Qing dynasty. The court paintings of these periods witnessed a trend of diversity in their development, integrating the techniques from China and West. Therefore, famille rose decoration resulted from cultural fusion. This paper analyzes the features of court flower-and-bird paintings in mid-Qing dynasty and explains their influence on famille rose decoration.
