Abstract: In this research, series of experiments were conducted to study the effect of steam curing system on the compressive strength of ceramsite, which was prepared from rare earth tailings. XRD was used to analyze its inner component change, and the ceramsite was also used for treating ammonia nitrogen waste water. The results show that steam curing system has great influence on the compressive strength of the ceramsite, and improving the steam temperature and prolonging curing time are favorable for the formation of the ceramsite. Hydrated calcium silicate is generated. Ammonia nitrogen removal rate can reach up to 52.5%. Moreover, the leaching toxicity of ceramsite is below the limit, which is a suitable filter material for water treatment.
