Abstract: To address the complex surface modeling problem involved in the modeling process of domestic ceramic products, a parametric geometric modeling method was proposed. This method is to construct and extract the shape parameter set of the domestic ceramic products, with the aid of the geometric characteristics of their prototypes. With the analysis of the curve fairness criterion, an modified energy-optimized fairing method was developed. In this method, the square sum of the shearing force jerk was introduced to obtain well-distributed curvatures. Combined with the fairing method, the extracted shape parameters were used as the driving parameters to define the geometric model of domestic ceramic products, which was applied to the parametric modeling of their contour curves and curved surfaces. Finally, practicality of the method was demonstrated with two examples.
