Abstract:  In order to improve its slag resistance and thermal shock resistance, the properties and structure of MgO-containing corundum spinel castable with tabular corundum aggregate replaced by corundum aggregate with 4wt.% magnesium oxide were studied. The results show: with the amount of magnesium-containing corundum aggregate increasing, the protective layer of CM2A8 which is a composite of CA6 and spinel formed in the interface between the aggregate and matrix after the samples were treated at 1600 ℃ for 3 h, and the slag corrosion resistance of the samples is obviously improved, the erosion area decreased from 6.2% to 1.3%, and the residual strength retention rate of the samples after 5 times of thermal shock by water cooling from 1100 ℃ increased from 15% to 23%.

Key words:  corundum - spinel castable; MgO-containing corundum; thermal shock resistance; slag corrosion resistance
