Abstract: Barium titanate nanoparticles were synthesized by electrochemical method. The effects of solvent and electrolyte composition on purity, grain size and dielectric properties of the product were discussed and compared. The phase composition, microstructure and dielectric properties of the materials were characterized by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM) and precision LCR measuring instrument. The barium titanate nanoparticles synthesized using the electrolyte containing 25 vol.% ethanol exhibited high crystallinity and high purity, with an average grain size of 10 nm. Under the condition of high alkalinity, the powder had small particle size and high purity. In addition, dielectric loss of the materials was reduced and the temperature stability was increased.

Key words: nano-powder; electrochemical synthesis; barium titanate; grain size; ε-t curve
