Abstract: The synthesis of Ti4AlN3 through orthogonal design was optimized, when Ti, Al and TiN powders were used as raw materials, by using vacuum hot pressing synthesis method.Ti4AlN3 was synthesized by using L25 (55) orthogonal test. Five factors, including sintering temperature, pressing strength, holding time, Al content and tin content, were taken for the study. The sintered samples were analyzed by using X-ray diffraction (XRD). It was found that the optimum synthesis conditions included sintering temperature of 1400 ℃, pressure strength of 30 MPa, holding time of 2 h, Al content of 23.1 at.% and TiN content of 55.1 at.%. Under these conditions, the highest mass fraction of Ti4AlN3 was 98.03 wt.%.
