Zhou Tiancheng's Paintings on Porcelain

WU Haiyun

(Jingdezhen Daily)

Abstract: Mr. Zhou Tiancheng graduated from Fine Arts Department of Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute in 1962. Since then, he has been kept there working as a teacher and engaging in ceramic art creation for some 30 years. His paintings on porcelain have taken a large variety of motifs, ranging from landscapes, flowers and birds to figures and quadrupeds. Those works are, on one hand, the inheritance of the traditional style typical of Jingdezhen's decorative art on porcelain, while on the other hand, the presentation of the notably new ideas in the layout, composition and colour scheme. Thus Zhou's works exemplifies both the local features of Jingdezhen and the personal artistic identity of the artist himself.
