Abstract: The trends for the development of the modern ceramic tool materials are reviewed in the present study as well as the research on the toughening and strengthening mechanisms, and the related problems existed are pointed out .It suggests that the variety, the property especially the toughening and strengthening mechanism and the application of the modern ceramic cutting tool materials should be studied further .
