Abstract:At low cost, SiCp Al2O3 -Al composites were synthesized by directed oxidation of metals( DIMOX) .The technical process is introduced in details .The microstructures of the composites were investigated using X -ray diffraction( XRD) and scanning electron microcopy( SEM) .The effects of SiO2 layer clinging to SiCp , the alloy components and technical parameters on the properties were analyzed .The result indicates that the spontaneous penetration is nearly perfect and the SiCp Al2O3 -Al com- posite has a dense microstructure .The microstructrue consistes of three interpenetrating phases .the SiC preform, a continuous α -Al2O3 matrix, and a network of unoxidized metal .The components and firng schedule are the most important technical param- eters in the process .

Keywords:SiCp Al2O3 -Al composites, directed metal oxidation, microstructrues, technical parameters
