Abstract: In this paper SiC powders were coated by four modifying agents such as succinic acid, ethylene glycol, sulfanilic acid and PEG400, which had different structures. The impacts of the structures of modifying agents on the stability of SiC suspension and the stability mechanisms of coated SiC suspension were studied. The results showed that the stability mechanisms of the SiC powders coated by succinic acid, ethylene glycol and sulfanilic acid were static electricity stabilization and the Zeta potential of the powders coated by sulfanilic acid was the highest and its suspension stability was better than the others. The stability mechanism of the SiC powders coated by PEG400 was space distance stabilization, and its suspension stability was the best.

Key words: surface modification, SiC suspension, stability
