Abstract: Waste aluminum sludge and clay were used to prepare mullite - corundum compos ites in this research. The influence of different sintering temperature on the crys talline phases were discus sed. XRD and SEM techniques were used to characterize the crys talline phases . Rietveld Quantification software was used to calculate the amount of each phase. The results show that sintering temperatures have much influence on crys talline phase and cell parameters , but have no influence on the symmetry of mullite, the best sintering temperature was 1480 ℃, at this temperature, the ratio of mullite to corundum was 73.3∶26.7, it is near the theorical ratio75∶25.
