Abstract: China has a long ceramic history, and functional ceramic art, a new form, emerged in the 1980s as the world's ceramic art reached its maturity. The necessity of innovative design for Chinese functional ceramic works was stressed with an observation of the current situation of their creation. Then elements conducive to a design of originality were summarized through an exploration in art theory and practice with a view to seek a more effective way to boost Chinese functional ceramic art creation.
