Abstract: A foamed ceramic was prepared using serpentine tailings as the main raw material, the wastes of the polished tile as the foaming agent, and low temperature sand, talc and bentonite as supplements. The influence of the batch formula and the firing temperature on the properties of the foamed ceramic was studied. The results show that the foamed ceramic with good performances may be obtained with 45wt.% serpentine tailings, 43wt.% low-temperature sand, 7wt.% talc, 5wt.% bentonite, and 10wt.% polished-tile wastes, when fired at 1150℃ and heat soakced for 15min. The bulk density and compressive strength of the foamed ceramic are 0.66g/cm3 and 7.22MPa, respectively, satisfying the requirements for application.

Key words:  serpentine tailings; polished tile wastes; foamed ceramic; performance; structure
