Preparation of Ultrafine α-Al2O3 Powder by Using Urea as Precipitating Agent

Abstract: Ultrafine α-Al2O3 powder was prepared by homogeneous preparation method using urea and aluminium sulfate as materials. The effects of reaction temperature, initial reaction concentration of aluminium sulfate and dosage of urea on precursor productivity were investigated. The dehydration process of the precursor was analyzed by DTA-TG, and the heattreated final powder was characterized by XRD and SEM. The result indicated that perfect ultrafine α-Al2O3 powder with high purity, narrow size range, spherical shape properties was obtained by calcination of the precursor at 1200℃.
