Abstract: Two influence factors-the sintering technology and the adding content of alumina are observed to analyze the cracking phenomenon of zirconia-alumina composite ceramic grains in the sintering process. The ZrO2+Al2O3 composite ceramic has been obtained after mixing materials, ball -milling, forming by dry pressing and then isostatic pressing, and pressureless sintering at 1540℃ ~1650℃ . Microstructure of the ceramics was examined by scanning electron microscope, and compositions by EDS of SEM. Research results show that grain crack appears when sintering at 1630℃ with the presence of 45% alumina. The Microstructure of the composite ceramic can be uniform and dense when it's sintered below 1600℃.
