Abstract: Crackled glaze was prepared using feldspar, talcum, calcite and kaolin as main raw materials. The effect of the composition of the glaze on crackled quality was investigated. Distribution of residual stresses and mechanisms of cracks produced in the glaze were analyzed by means of finite element method (FEM). The results show that a good crackled glaze may be obtained when there is appropriate difference in the physical performance between the glaze and the body, the firing temperature is 1250~1300℃ and the holding time is 30 min. The finite element analysis results of the residual stresses are consistent with those of the experiments.
