Abstract: Magnesia alumina spinel (MgAl2O4 ) phases were synthesized by microwave sintering and conventional sintering respectively from the mixture of MgO and Al2O3 powders to the mole ratio of 1:1. Then the MgAl2O4 phases were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and the statistics & calculation software for particle size distribution, and the results revealed that microwave sintering could save time and energy, and obtain better microstructure with fine and homogeneous crystal grains.
