Abstract: Investigate the effect of polymeric sponge network and impregnation process on porous ceramic, morphology and microstructure of porous ceramic fabricated in different impregnation process were analyzed. The results show that porous ceramic aperture becomes larger with increasing polymeric sponge network aperture. Corrosion treatment in NaOH solution can improve the permeability of sponge network and ceramic network effectively, which may result in larger ceramic aperture. Ceramic network is diffi cult to change in shape and ceramic aperture becomes larger by using excellent sponge. Both thin and thick slurry will block the ceramic network. Only moderate slurry viscosity can maintain better ceramic network permeability and larger ceramic aperture. Two times impregnation result in thinner network and larger aperture than multiple times impregnation.

Key words: porous ceramics; aperture; polymeric sponge; impregnation process; network; permeability
