Abstract:The chemical composition of Ru celadon Guan ware unearthed from the Qingliangsi kiln of Song Dynasty was analyzed for designing the glaze formula. The effects of n(SiO2 )/n(Al2O3) molar ratios, Fe2O3 content, CaO and MgO molar ratio, replacement of agate with quartz on the glaze formula were studied by observing the replica glaze color generation and X-ray diffraction pattern. The results showed that the n(SiO2)/n(Al2O3) molar ratio can influence the forming of crystals deposited on the glaze surface which will change the glaze from glossy to semi-mat and mat. The replica glaze has the best color generation when the n(SiO2)/n(Al2O3) molar ratio is 5.7 and the molar values of CaO,MgO and Fe2O3 are 0.70, 0.15, 0.025 respectively in the glaze formula. Additionally, there are a small number of phase-separated droplets and a large number of crystals on the microstructure of the replica glaze prepared with agate replacing quartz.
