Preparation and Evaluation of Standard Samples for Ceramic Bibulous Rate Test

Abstract: The purpose of this project is to produce reference samples for ceramic water-absorption characterization .The influences of the composition, the molding process and the sintering temperature on the water absorption of reference samples were analyzed. The results show that the prescription includes 41.11% kaolin, 38.45% feldspar and 20.54% quartz; the ball mill time was 13 h; the moulding method was slip casting under the high pressure of 0.6 MPa for 30 min; the sintering time was 8 hours and 10 minutes with the highest temperature at 1215°C for the holding time of 10 min. The evaluation methods and steps of ceramic reference samples were determined, the uniformity and stability of the reference samples were verified .The samples’ water absorption value was 9.23% and the uncertainty was 0.31%.
