Abstract: he submicron (Y0.9La0.1)2O3 powders were prepared by the citrate method using Y(NO3)3 • 6H2O, La(NO3)3 • 6H2O, citric acid, ethanediol and deionized water as the raw materials, and the influence of citric acid, ethanediol and deionized water on the shape, size and dispersity of the prepared powders was discussed. It is exhibited that citric acid can bind with metal ions to form a stable chelate which makes the size of powder small. When the mol ratio of citric acid to metal cation is more than 1.5:1, the prepared powders have good dispersity whose medium particle diameter is 105 nm. The ethanediol can make the esterification reaction with the citric which will disperse powders effectively.

Key words: (Y0.9La0.1)2O3 ; citrate method; submicron; dispersity
