Abstract: Two kinds of uranium-rich pyrochlore synrocs were prepared by sol-gel method. The microstructure, phase constitution and elementary composition of the as-prepared synrocs were studied with SEM, XRD and BES/EDS. The result shows that the precursor with less impurity, uniform chemical composition, small particle size and higher purity can be made by sol-gel method. After sintering, the uraniumrich pyrochlore synroc with compact structure, homogeneous distribution and stable crystalline phase can be obtained. What’s more, the addition of a proper amount of Al3+ can facilitate the uranium entry into the synroc and stabilize the crystalline phase.

Key words: pyrochlore; uranium; sol-gel method
