Abstract: A new red YAl1-xCrxO3 pigment was prepared by glycine combustion. The effect of Cr3+ content, calcination temperature, holding time and mineralizer on the chromaticity of YAl1-xCrxO3 pigment were studied. The results show that the a * value of the chromaticity for YAl1-xCrxO3 pigment increases with the increase of Cr3+ content, calcination temperature and holding time. Correspondingly, the pigment changes red. The change of the b * value is similar to that of the a * value, which is the result of the change of Cr3+ to Cr4+. The mineralizing effect of CaF2 is better than the others. The bright red YAl0.97Cr0.03O3 pigment can be prepared by calcinating at 1300 ℃ for 3 h with L *=55.26, a *=26.74 and b *=17.44.
