Abstract: “Minimalism” is the aesthetic principle that Chinese freehand-style paintings distinguish with. The freehand-style blue and white paintings on Ming Dynasty Jingdezhen folk ware pursue the minimalist, natural and unaffected beauty by using the fewest possible strokes rather than the most meticulous details to express a complicated idea with a simple composition. This paper analyzes the minimalism of freehand-style blue and white paintings on Ming Dynasty Jingdezhen folk ware in terms of the use of lines and the blanks.
