Abstract: Using iron tailing and Zimujie clay as raw materials, and pore-forming agents as additives, light-weight insulating brick was prepared by grinding, mixing, plastic moulding, drying and firing. Experiment results show that, among the four kinds of pore-forming agents used, i.e. dolomite, calcium carbonate, magnesium carbonate and pulverized coal, the most reasonable is dolomite. When 20wt.% dolomite was added, the firing temperature was 1100 ℃, and the holding time was 20 min, the light-weight insulating brick with the porosity of 65. 7 vol.% could be obtained, the compressive strength is 7.1 MPa, the volume density is 1.10 g/cm3.The material can provide good insulation for civic buildings.

Key words: iron tailing; pore-forming agent; light-weight insulating brick
