Abstract: Magnesium oxide partially stabilized zirconia (Mg-PSZ) ceramics are structural materials with excellent high temperature mechanical properties and aging resistance. They have been widely used in energy and environmental protection, metallurgy and chemical industry, mechanical electronics, engine and gas turbine, oil exploration and so on, thus being irreplaceable by Y-TZP and other zirconia-based ceramics. This paper is aimed to summarize the progress in MgO-ZrO2 ceramics, including phase diagram, ZrO2 crystal transformation and preparation process of the ceramic powders. Moreover, sintering process and microstructure of the Mg-PSZ ceramics will be focused. At the same time, the performance and application of Mg-PSZ products of the international influential advanced ceramic enterprises, as well as China companies, will be described.
Key words: Mg-PSZ; sintering process; microstructure; mechanical property
