Abstract: The effects of chemical composition and phase-separative particles on the coloration of glaze based on R2O-RO-Fe2O3-Al2O3-SiO2 were studied by using four corners method with potash feldspar, calcite, talc, quartz and ferric oxide as the raw materials. Microstructure and micro-area composition of the glaze were characterized by using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS), respectively. It is found that the coloration and crystallization of the samples mainly depended on the chemical composition of the glaze. Blue phase-separative glaze with yellow crystals was obtained, as the mole ratio of SiO2/Fe2O3 was in the range of 29.59-32.96 and CaO/MgO was over 0.51-5.09. The sizes of the phase-separative particle and yellow crystal were in the range of 50-100 nm and about 800 μm, respectively.
