Abstract: Engineering ceramics which have high hardness, good wear resistance and performance stability have been widely used in various industries. On the basis of relevant research results by domestic and foreign scholars, new processing technologies of engineering ceramics obtain considerable development. Mechanical machining is the traditional processing technology which has been commonly used because of the hardness and brittleness of engineering ceramics. This paper reviews the recent developments of high/ ultra high speed grinding, deep creep and slow feed grinding, high speed and deep creep grinding, etc. In addition, it also describes the cutting and extruding processing technology based on edge-chipping effect and energy assisted machining technology.
Key words: engineering ceramics; mechanical machining technology; research progress; energy assisted machining
