Application and State-of-the-art of Electrode Microstructure Evaluation in Solid Oxide Fuel Cell

Abstract:Electrode microstructure has an important impact on the performances of solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC), while the microscopic information of the electrode can be obtained readily and intuitively by using image analysis method. The processes of evaluating the electrode morphology and obtaining the electrode microscopic quantitative data based on the image analysis are described and the common methods in the process of image acquisition and processing are summarized. The technologies, including scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray tomography, optical microscope, gray threshold image segmentation and three-dimensional reconstruction of electrode are highlighted. Finally, more methods that may be used in image analysis in the future are discussed.
